Hohenstein: Lab opening in India - Increased market proximity with further expansion of expertise network

With the opening of a textile testing laboratory in Gurugram, India, the testing service provider and research partner, Hohenstein, has again raised the bar for the textile industry. Just recently, in July 2018, the company opened a textile testing laboratory with a comprehensive service portfolio in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Starting in December 2018, Hohenstein India will also be able to offer its tailor-made services in one of the world’s textile hotspots.

The new Hohenstein textile testing laboratory in Gurugram, India works according to the highest standards, with the most modern equipment.
With around 50 employees on a total of around 3000 square metres, Hohenstein India will offer textile manufacturers, brand suppliers and re-tailers a variety of textile technology and chem-ical tests.

“For more than 70 years, Hohenstein has stood for textile expertise along the entire textile pro-duction chain. With the new laboratories in India and Bangladesh, we’re growing a network of expertise from which everyone will benefit.” says Prof. Dr. Stefan Mecheels, who is managing in the third generation of the family run business. Good, consistent cooperation is very important for Hohenstein: close exchange between the laboratories in Germany, Hong Kong, Bangladesh and India ensures more customer proximity and faster order processing. “One thing is certain,” un-derlines Mecheels, “wherever the examinations, tests and analyses take place, our laboratories all work with the most modern equipment according to the same standards.”

Hohenstein now offers wastewater testing - Hohenstein uses its expertise as a ZDHC partner laboratory to offer wastewater testing.

Following its recent recognition by the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) Program as a partnering wastewater testing laboratory,
Hohenstein now offers customers the security of ZDHC-compliant manufacturing. As an internationally accredited testing laboratory, service provider and research partner of the textile industry, Hohenstein is thrilled to further support the objectives of the ZDHC and the ZDHC Roadmap.

Like Hohenstein and the OEKO-TEX® Association, the ZDHC has the goal of significantly reducing or completely banning the use of harmful chemicals in the production process of textiles, leather and shoes. By testing wastewater values, Hohenstein supports the industry on the path to reduced emissions.

Hohenstein has been a member of the ZDHC and its laboratory working group since December 2018. Chemicals can be tested for ZDHC MRSL Manufactured Restricted Substances List) con-formity using ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX®.

As a test and research laboratory, Hohenstein already has many years of experience of handling chemicals in the textile industry. In this sense, as a new waste water testing laboratory recognised by the ZDHC, Hohenstein is also pleased to be able to support the objectives of the ZDHC and its roadmap in this regard.

Hohenstein laboratories are available to all manufacturing companies interested in having their value creation chain checked for ZDHC conformity. Please contact sales@hohenstein.de with any questions or visit www.roadmaptozero.com for further information.

Hohenstein’s WATson is now a DIN SPEC standard - The WATson heat loss device quantifies the evaporative cooling of textiles
The 2019 published DIN SPEC 60015 “Quantitative measurement of the evaporative heat loss of smart textile materials for work, sports / outdoor and leisure” defines the measuring procedure and requirements for textiles and clothing that claim to have a cooling effect. This already offers a market compliant standard. The next stage is to convert the method into an ISO standard.

WATson is the only device worldwide that can quantitatively measure the evaporative cooling ability of a textile or textile system – for example during activity – and is already well received in the performance apparel and home textiles industries. It measures the dynamic interaction of textiles and human thermal regulation with customizable climatic conditions and sweat rates. Only a 25x25 cm fabric sample is required for the WATson test, which provides data on average cooling power, cooling power over time, fabric response and dry time. The data is used for product development, benchmark comparisons, quality assurance and verified marketing claims. In addition to the measurement scenarios defined in DIN SPEC 60015, WATson’s setup can be tailored to meet specific requirements.
